The outfitter finally got the chance to hunt during 4th season. He expected to fill opening morning but what a difference 2 days had made. 3rd season was amazing. We had elk in front of our hunters every day. Sometimes big herds of 30, 40, 70 and more. We didn’t have many hunters and all but one killed their bull. He passed on several, but never got the shot on the trophy he wanted. But 4th season was different. We could hardly find elk or even sign of elk. There were some around, but not like just a few days earlier. Finally on the last day John went into the timber set up where he felt good and waited. At last light on the last day this cow came in to his calling.
It was a Blessing for him and for the elk. Her lower jaw was dangling from an errant shot someone else had made earlier in the day and she would have starved to death.
